Working with resin is fun, rewarding and challenging, however resin is not to be taken lightly, mishandled it can cause serious injury and affect your breathing, all of this can be mitigated with simple and effective measure.
There are endless different varities of resin with them falling under the main 3 headings of Epoxy resin, Polyurethane resin and Polyester resin.
A mask is important as epoxy as it is very detrimental to your airways Link to Amazon masks also resin must be cast in a well ventilated area, this can be tricky if using resin in colder climates but it is important as resin can trigger dizziness. As i work with woodturning as well i use this mask for both Force 8 Half-Mask with PressToCheck P3 Filters (JSP BHT0A3-0L5-N00), Grey, Medium generally a N95 mask is great for the purpose.
Gloves, or more importantly gloves which will not absorb liquid are the key to keeping your skin safe. Wether it be a trusty pair of marigolds or more glove options . it is important that these gloves don't get used for anything else.
Heat - all resins cause a exothermic reaction so they get while curing, some resins will be hotter than others (from personal experience polyester resin is extremely hot) so where you cast the resin is important as to protect your surface and your resin project.
Depth of pour - there is a variety of different resins depending on the need of the project and it's important to make a note of the depth of what you are casting as if you were to cast something over the recommended depth it can cause an adverse reaction and threaten your project from curing correctly.
